Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Real Estate and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.43%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which rose 5.18% or 34.85 points to trade at 707.35 at the close. UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 2.11% or 203.80 points to end at 9,874.70 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 1.72% or 105.60 points to 6,244.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which lost 3.86% or 17.95 points to trade at 447.55 in late trade. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) declined 2.10% or 116.45 points to end at 5,430.90 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 1.93% or 203.35 points to 10,338.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 1.87% to 9,866.10, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 1.23% to settle at 5,540.35 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 1.18% to close at 1,130.00.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.77% to 1,219.35 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.75% to settle at 10,353.60 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.71% to 1,495.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1253 to 839 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1931 fell and 1724 advanced, while 114 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.35% to 12.71.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.41% or 8.20 to $2,001.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.29% or 0.21 to hit $71.53 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.15 to trade at $76.18 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.03% to 83.38, while EUR/INR rose 0.40% to 90.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 103.36.
