Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.38%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which rose 2.10% or 75.30 points to trade at 3655.20 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 1.54% or 8.30 points to end at 545.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 1.51% or 26.15 points to 1754.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 4.46% or 18.55 points to trade at 396.95 in late trade. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC) declined 2.49% or 9.90 points to end at 386.95 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) shed 2.45% or 30.35 points to 1210.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which rose 1.96% to 3653.65, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 1.57% to settle at 546.25 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 1.37% to close at 3255.60.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 2.46% to 1209.85 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.20% to settle at 206.75 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.77% to 1154.25 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 953 to 643 and 4 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1518 fell and 1136 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.85% to 14.1650 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.45% or 5.80 to $1273.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.37% or 0.21 to hit $56.55 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.36% or 0.23 to trade at $62.93 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.07% to 65.407, while EUR/INR rose 0.41% to 76.6649.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 94.21.
