Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.35%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.33%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which rose 4.82% or 15.75 points to trade at 341.65 at the close. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) added 3.61% or 21.60 points to end at 618.90 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) was up 2.30% or 18.30 points to 817.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 4.82% or 1019.40 points to trade at 20158.70 in late trade. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) declined 3.87% or 9.05 points to end at 225.10 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) shed 3.90% or 5.25 points to 129.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 2.18% to 154.75, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 0.88% to settle at 2068.60 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 0.76% to close at 1920.00.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.84% to 133.60 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 2.60% to settle at 268.25 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 2.51% to 176.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 996 to 588 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1496 fell and 958 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.13% to 15.7300.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.06% or 0.85 to $1314.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.05% or 0.56 to hit $53.66 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.38% or 0.86 to trade at $63.28 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.43% to 70.835, while EUR/INR rose 0.40% to 80.1875.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 96.588.
