Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.19%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which rose 3.07% or 130.45 points to trade at 4,385.70 at the close. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) added 2.96% or 41.80 points to end at 1,452.00 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 2.45% or 13.80 points to 578.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which lost 2.17% or 31.00 points to trade at 1,400.65 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 1.64% or 5.20 points to end at 312.75 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) shed 1.59% or 10.40 points to 645.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 1.59% to 2,918.85, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was up 0.61% to settle at 455.30 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 0.37% to close at 2,392.50.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.60% to 312.90 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.27% to settle at 364.90 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.21% to 1,313.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1582 to 603 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2402 fell and 1271 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.32% to 24.19 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.48% or 11.10 to $2,345.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.65% or 1.28 to hit $79.00 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.20 to trade at $83.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.07% to 83.18, while EUR/INR rose 0.25% to 90.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 104.37.
