Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Metals and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.17%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which rose 2.50% or 5.60 points to trade at 230.00 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 2.13% or 21.70 points to end at 1,039.65 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 1.56% or 18.75 points to 1,223.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which lost 2.39% or 24.45 points to trade at 1,000.00 in late trade. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) declined 1.92% or 49.40 points to end at 2,518.25 and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) shed 1.55% or 86.10 points to 5,457.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 2.47% to 229.95, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 1.80% to settle at 9,376.00 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which gained 1.22% to close at 3,590.00.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 2.34% to 1,000.00 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.80% to settle at 2,520.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.37% to 130.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1183 to 915 and 38 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2126 rose and 1506 declined, while 115 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.77% to 12.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.11% or 2.35 to $2,050.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.33% or 0.92 to hit $70.30 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.40% or 1.04 to trade at $75.34 a barrel.
USD/INR was unchanged 0.01% to 83.36, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 89.79.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 103.84.
