Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 2.07% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 2.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 7.45% or 289.80 points to trade at 4,181.00 at the close. Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) added 7.13% or 168.50 points to end at 2,531.20 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 6.14% or 50.85 points to 878.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL), which lost 1.06% or 7.20 points to trade at 674.95 in late trade. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) declined 0.74% or 36.75 points to end at 4,934.00 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) shed 0.09% or 0.35 points to 407.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 4.68% to 990.60, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 3.99% to settle at 594.65 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 3.88% to close at 3,313.65.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 0.10% to 407.30 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 0.04% to settle at 10,580.30 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 0.01% to 3,510.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1345 to 759 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2272 rose and 1426 declined, while 175 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.93% to 12.99.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.19% or 3.90 to $2,085.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.55% or 0.41 to hit $73.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.44 to trade at $78.44 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.16% to 83.36, while EUR/INR fell 0.23% to 90.54.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 103.35.
