Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.90%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 5.21% or 20.95 points to trade at 421.55 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 4.36% or 13.25 points to end at 317.40 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 4.19% or 10.85 points to 270.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which lost 2.15% or 6.55 points to trade at 297.65 in late trade. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) declined 1.62% or 9.60 points to end at 582.85 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) shed 0.16% or 0.40 points to 252.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 4.68% to 420.75, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 4.33% to settle at 171.00 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 4.09% to close at 270.00.
The worst performers were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 2.26% to 297.80 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 0.12% to settle at 252.85 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 0.03% to 194.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 872 to 740 and 33 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1333 rose and 1324 declined, while 153 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.22% to 14.4925.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.51% or 6.80 to $1317.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.44% or 0.27 to hit $61.77 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.53% or 0.35 to trade at $65.14 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 65.015, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 80.0137.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 90.06.
