Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.84% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 7.03% or 7.65 points to trade at 116.40 at the close. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 6.58% or 17.95 points to end at 290.90 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was up 6.54% or 112.15 points to 1827.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which lost 3.64% or 16.60 points to trade at 438.85 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 2.71% or 49.40 points to end at 1775.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) shed 2.44% or 55.95 points to 2234.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which rose 7.07% to 1837.00, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was up 4.87% to settle at 976.75 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 4.69% to close at 494.25.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 3.67% to 438.85 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 3.08% to settle at 1768.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 2.55% to 2232.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 943 to 562 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1327 rose and 925 declined, while 177 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.29% to 33.8375 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.28% or 4.90 to $1717.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 13.29% or 1.64 to hit $13.98 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.65% or 0.83 to trade at $23.57 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.46% to 75.710, while EUR/INR fell 0.17% to 82.1455.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 99.790.
