Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.43% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 4.72% or 16.55 points to trade at 367.10 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 4.29% or 34.95 points to end at 850.00 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 4.16% or 59.55 points to 1,489.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which lost 1.92% or 73.95 points to trade at 3,774.95 in late trade. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 1.76% or 79.90 points to end at 4,466.10 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) shed 1.06% or 14.50 points to 1,347.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 4.36% to 850.70, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was up 4.16% to settle at 1,490.05 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 3.72% to close at 1,010.50.
The worst performers were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.70% to 4,465.70 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 1.19% to settle at 1,347.65 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 0.86% to 1,163.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1368 to 476 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2249 rose and 1074 declined, while 161 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.49% to 17.16 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.62% or 10.60 to $1,714.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.84% or 1.74 to hit $96.31 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.06% or 2.08 to trade at $103.24 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.21% to 79.96, while EUR/INR rose 0.92% to 81.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.65% at 107.21.
