Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Metals and Auto sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.05%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 4.41% or 17.75 points to trade at 419.95 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 3.69% or 13.85 points to end at 389.25 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 3.58% or 20.40 points to 590.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 1.32% or 2.95 points to trade at 219.80 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 1.21% or 14.00 points to end at 1141.30 and Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) shed 0.94% or 16.65 points to 1761.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 3.57% to 389.05, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was up 3.54% to settle at 590.20 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 3.01% to close at 279.30.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.05% to 170.10 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 0.94% to settle at 1143.20 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 0.81% to 220.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1051 to 495 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1600 rose and 911 declined, while 113 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.01% to 14.2375.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 4.01 to $1275.69 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.32% or 0.15 to hit $47.70 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.22 to trade at $51.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 64.158, while EUR/INR fell 0.25% to 75.0554.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 93.94.
