Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Metals and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK), which rose 4.14% or 39.30 points to trade at 989.15 at the close. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) added 3.90% or 68.35 points to end at 1820.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 3.41% or 11.30 points to 342.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 5.87% or 5.90 points to trade at 94.60 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 2.92% or 6.50 points to end at 216.40 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 2.78% or 13.65 points to 476.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 4.16% to 990.35, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 4.03% to settle at 1822.80 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 3.60% to close at 342.80.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.57% to 534.00 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.40% to settle at 380.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.80% to 480.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 907 to 725 and 41 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1300 fell and 1138 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.19% to 32.9650.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.67% or 11.55 to $1738.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.54% or 0.57 to hit $37.69 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.66% or 0.66 to trade at $40.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.20% to 76.106, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 86.0855.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 96.623.
