Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.92%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 5.06% or 21.80 points to trade at 452.70 at the close. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) added 4.61% or 30.45 points to end at 691.45 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 4.22% or 10.15 points to 250.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which lost 1.37% or 51.50 points to trade at 3703.95 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 1.30% or 5.25 points to end at 399.95 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) shed 0.67% or 11.70 points to 1740.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which rose 4.97% to 452.30, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.73% to settle at 691.40 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 3.19% to close at 530.40.
The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 1.42% to 3703.70 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 0.40% to settle at 2377.85 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was down 0.38% to 1745.80 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1095 to 468 and 19 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1634 rose and 934 declined, while 110 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.06% to 11.1175 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1272.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.00% or 0.51 to hit $50.28 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.42% or 0.24 to trade at $56.76 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 65.345, while EUR/INR rose 0.30% to 76.5200.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 93.80.
