Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Auto and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.86%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which rose 2.93% or 95.80 points to trade at 3368.20 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.64% or 21.00 points to end at 815.10 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 2.46% or 20.15 points to 838.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 0.34% or 0.70 points to trade at 205.40 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 0.30% or 2.60 points to end at 852.65 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) shed 0.03% or 0.20 points to 735.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 2.85% to 3367.15, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.59% to settle at 815.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.53% to close at 839.00.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 0.29% to 852.70 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 0.22% to settle at 205.60 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 0.04% to 736.05 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1430 to 369 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2531 rose and 751 declined, while 93 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.75% to 16.4750.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 4.75 to $1813.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.02% or 0.77 to hit $76.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.72 to trade at $78.94 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.36% to 74.692, while EUR/INR fell 0.66% to 84.3420.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 96.265.
