Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.76%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 6.90% or 6.20 points to trade at 96.10 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 5.15% or 4.05 points to end at 82.65 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 5.13% or 5.90 points to 121.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which lost 3.96% or 18.95 points to trade at 459.80 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 3.79% or 20.40 points to end at 518.25 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) shed 3.30% or 38.75 points to 1135.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 6.79% to 96.00, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 4.80% to settle at 343.00 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which gained 4.22% to close at 990.00.
The worst performers were HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 4.05% to 459.25 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 3.66% to settle at 1130.35 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 3.63% to 518.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1128 to 390 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1550 rose and 708 declined, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.32% to 46.0950 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.01% or 17.50 to $1757.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.66% or 0.33 to hit $20.20 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.00% or 0.83 to trade at $28.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.39% to 76.861, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 83.6085.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 99.877.
