Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Auto, Metals and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.44%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 7.08% or 12.45 points to trade at 188.20 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 5.79% or 7.00 points to end at 127.80 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) was up 5.16% or 77.45 points to 1577.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS), which lost 3.60% or 169.45 points to trade at 4532.60 in late trade. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) declined 2.90% or 59.30 points to end at 1983.50 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) shed 2.85% or 2.65 points to 90.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 7.48% to 188.90, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 5.05% to settle at 1576.25 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which gained 3.93% to close at 2103.05.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.91% to 346.95 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 2.80% to settle at 90.30 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.65% to 1988.85 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 918 to 569 and 100 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1269 rose and 864 declined, while 169 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.89% to 32.9850 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.00% or 17.45 to $1734.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.18% or 0.73 to hit $34.22 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.96% or 0.70 to trade at $36.45 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 75.529, while EUR/INR rose 0.00% to 82.9350.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 99.237.
