Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms, Financial Services and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 2.48% to hit a new 1-month high, while the MDAX index climbed 2.01%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.78%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG), which rose 4.98% or 2.305 points to trade at 48.555 at the close. Meanwhile, K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) added 4.43% or 1.050 points to end at 24.735 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) was up 4.39% or 0.690 points to 16.425 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which fell 1.52% or 0.210 points to trade at 13.625 at the close. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) added 0.60% or 0.390 points to end at 65.100 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 0.95% or 0.095 points to 10.050.
The top performers on the MDAX were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) which rose 6.43% to 28.54, Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which was up 5.21% to settle at 25.230 and LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which gained 5.09% to close at 71.500.
The worst performers were STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which was down 0.99% to 33.060 in late trade, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which lost 0.82% to settle at 54.290 and Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which was down 0.65% to 45.800 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which rose 3.85% to 5.660, BB Biotech AG (DE:BIONn) which was up 3.17% to settle at 241.000 and LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which gained 3.07% to close at 8.400.
The worst performers were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 16.05% to 9.600 in late trade, Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which lost 3.13% to settle at 37.960 and Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which was down 2.95% to 179.150 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 498 to 187 and 34 ended unchanged.
Shares in Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) rose to 5-year highs; up 5.21% or 1.250 to 25.230.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 5.84% to 18.39 a new 1-month low.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.20 to $1167.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.44% or 0.20 to hit $45.40 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.20 to trade at $48.05 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.82% to 1.1134, while EUR/GBP fell 1.60% to 0.7235.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.27% at 96.29.
