Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Transportation & Logistics and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Basic Resources and Consumer & Cyclical sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.13%, while the MDAX index declined 0.40%, and the TecDAX index added 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which rose 2.87% or 0.217 points to trade at 7.788 at the close. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) added 2.73% or 2.260 points to end at 85.160 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was up 2.47% or 0.435 points to 18.080 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 3.47% or 0.560 points to trade at 15.575 in late trade. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) declined 2.09% or 2.85 points to end at 133.75 and Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) shed 2.04% or 3.55 points to 170.25.
The top performers on the MDAX were Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which rose 4.05% to 17.355, Kion Group AG (DE:KGX) which was up 2.78% to settle at 65.86 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which gained 2.05% to close at 97.60.
The worst performers were Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which was down 11.05% to 11.35 in late trade, Schaeffler AG Pref (DE:SHA_p) which lost 4.11% to settle at 14.71 and Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 3.28% to 4.75 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 4.81% to 25.180, Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was up 2.21% to settle at 52.350 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which gained 2.19% to close at 4.428.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was down 3.01% to 5.856 in late trade, Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which lost 2.25% to settle at 42.495 and GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 1.97% to 20.180 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 393 to 357 and 26 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.07% to 13.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.36% or 4.57 to $1266.67 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.30% or 1.14 to hit $48.52 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.35% or 1.23 to trade at $51.01 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.42% to 1.1233, while EUR/GBP rose 0.14% to 0.8712.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 96.94.
