Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Software, Industrials and Construction sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Food & Beverages and Transportation & Logistics sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.12% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index lost 0.12%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were SAP SE (DE:SAPG), which rose 1.17% or 0.970 points to trade at 83.660 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) added 1.13% or 0.205 points to end at 18.320 and Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) was up 1.10% or 2.050 points to 188.300 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which lost 3.13% or 0.400 points to trade at 12.395 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) declined 1.54% or 0.185 points to end at 11.800 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) shed 0.83% or 0.850 points to 102.150.
The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which rose 1.96% to 36.090, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was up 1.59% to settle at 37.35 and Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which gained 1.28% to close at 38.000.
The worst performers were GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which was down 1.73% to 38.150 in late trade, Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which lost 1.72% to settle at 27.635 and K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which was down 1.25% to 22.555 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which rose 2.26% to 38.470, Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which was up 1.75% to settle at 44.480 and Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which gained 1.29% to close at 16.500.
The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.63% to 25.400 in late trade, Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which lost 1.76% to settle at 41.875 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 1.67% to 47.200 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 372 to 347 and 30 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 4.20% to 15.13.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.65% or 7.70 to $1173.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.60% or 0.32 to hit $54.08 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.46% or 0.26 to trade at $57.15 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.51% to 1.0550, while EUR/GBP rose 0.32% to 0.8568.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.63% at 102.03.
