Germany shares mixed at close of trade; DAX down 0.39%

Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Media, Retail and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.39%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.25%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.06%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 3.07% or 0.380 points to trade at 12.755 at the close. Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) added 2.53% or 3.750 points to end at 152.250 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 2.05% or 0.116 points to 5.767 in late trade.

Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 7.79% or 0.735 points to trade at 8.697 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) declined 3.65% or 0.570 points to end at 15.045 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) shed 3.03% or 0.660 points to 21.115.

The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which rose 3.78% to 9.00, Brenntag AG (DE:BNRGn) which was up 3.40% to settle at 47.475 and Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which gained 2.05% to close at 29.120.

The worst performers were Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which was down 6.60% to 27.955 in late trade, Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which lost 3.36% to settle at 102.250 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 1.93% to 81.500 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Slm Solution G (DE:AM3D) which rose 4.20% to 26.66, Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which was up 2.28% to settle at 188.050 and United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which gained 2.21% to close at 40.615.

The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 6.49% to 38.050 in late trade, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which lost 3.15% to settle at 4.150 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 2.11% to 53.840 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 475 to 410 and 25 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 17.92.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.43% or 5.75 to $1352.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.71% or 0.73 to hit $42.04 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.49% or 0.67 to trade at $44.31 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.1174, while EUR/GBP rose 0.48% to 0.8592.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 95.61.
