Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Utilities, Consumer & Cyclical and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Media and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.11%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.42%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 1.03% or 0.160 points to trade at 15.720 at the close. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 0.71% or 0.052 points to end at 7.352 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) was up 0.61% or 1.05 points to 173.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which lost 0.77% or 0.065 points to trade at 8.370 in late trade. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) declined 0.48% or 0.4200 points to end at 87.0600 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) shed 0.48% or 0.110 points to 22.725.
The top performers on the MDAX were Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which rose 4.37% to 69.560, Rational AG (BS:RAAd) which was up 2.18% to settle at 445.05 and Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which gained 2.00% to close at 4.65.
The worst performers were Gerresheimer AG (BS:GXId) which was down 4.85% to 71.140 in late trade, CTS Eventim AG (DE:EVDG) which lost 2.05% to settle at 35.510 and Schaeffler AG Pref (DE:SHA_p) which was down 1.11% to 15.62 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were S&T AG (F:SANT1) which rose 8.22% to 11.677, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was up 2.97% to settle at 94.620 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which gained 1.14% to close at 9.935.
The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 3.42% to 22.605 in late trade, Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which lost 2.63% to settle at 29.420 and Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 2.04% to 10.095 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 396 to 334 and 34 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 2.34% to 17.11 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.42% or 5.25 to $1253.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.04% or 0.53 to hit $51.68 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.90% or 0.49 to trade at $54.85 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.07% to 1.0656, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8537.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 100.53.
