Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Utilities, Food & Beverages and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Basic Resources, Construction and Media sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 0.04% to hit a new 6-month high, while the MDAX index fell 0.27%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p), which rose 3.76% or 3.24 points to trade at 89.34 at the close. Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) added 1.79% or 1.900 points to end at 108.050 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 1.70% or 0.72 points to 43.12 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which lost 2.36% or 0.305 points to trade at 12.595 in late trade. BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) declined 1.92% or 1.230 points to end at 62.730 and Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) shed 1.92% or 2.44 points to 124.90.
The top performers on the MDAX were Hannover Rueck SE (DE:HNRGn) which rose 1.82% to 145.60, Talanx AG NA O.N. (DE:TLXGn) which was up 1.76% to settle at 39.280 and Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which gained 1.35% to close at 27.030.
The worst performers were Grenke N AG (DE:GLJn) which was down 6.83% to 89.35 in late trade, Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which lost 5.99% to settle at 13.345 and Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which was down 3.60% to 13.6400 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SLM Solutions Group AG (DE:AM3D) which rose 3.14% to 12.50, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which was up 1.39% to settle at 8.7240 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 1.34% to close at 56.800.
The worst performers were Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which was down 4.51% to 27.550 in late trade, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which lost 2.83% to settle at 54.850 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 2.09% to 25.280 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 324 to 324 and 103 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 3.99% to 13.00 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.28% or 17.85 to $1407.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.32% or 1.96 to hit $57.13 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.83% or 1.84 to trade at $63.22 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.08% to 1.1294, while EUR/GBP rose 0.36% to 0.8959.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 96.270.
