Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Retail sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.56%, while the MDAX index lost 0.67%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which rose 0.60% or 0.090 points to trade at 15.075 at the close. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) added 0.34% or 0.080 points to end at 23.915 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) was up 0.25% or 0.030 points to 12.010 in late trade.
Biggest losers included RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which lost 3.12% or 0.345 points to trade at 10.710 in late trade. Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) declined 2.82% or 3.750 points to end at 129.200 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) shed 2.59% or 0.480 points to 18.050.
The top performers on the MDAX were STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which rose 1.68% to 33.500, Hannover Rueckversicherung SE (DE:HNRGn) which was up 0.94% to settle at 101.700 and Duerr AG O.N. (DE:DUEG) which gained 0.92% to close at 63.790.
The worst performers were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which was down 3.38% to 56.650 in late trade, GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which lost 3.25% to settle at 41.630 and Gerresheimer AG (DE:GXId) which was down 2.94% to 66.800 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which rose 1.21% to 40.590, Bechtle AG O.N. (DE:BC8G) which was up 0.81% to settle at 79.730 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which gained 0.73% to close at 46.200.
The worst performers were Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which was down 6.49% to 3.530 in late trade, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which lost 4.31% to settle at 63.000 and Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which was down 3.18% to 3.225 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 525 to 309 and 28 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.14% to 21.32.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.05% or 13.10 to $1232.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.74% or 1.02 to hit $36.16 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.63% or 1.04 to trade at $38.49 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.08% to 1.1112, while EUR/GBP rose 1.07% to 0.7849.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 96.62.
