Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Telecoms and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 1.75%, while the MDAX index added 2.01%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which rose 4.67% or 0.391 points to trade at 8.755 at the close. Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) added 4.15% or 0.598 points to end at 14.998 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was up 4.03% or 0.512 points to 13.217 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which lost 1.26% or 0.075 points to trade at 5.865 in late trade. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 0.53% or 0.900 points to end at 169.100 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) shed 0.03% or 0.030 points to 89.110.
The top performers on the MDAX were Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which rose 4.42% to 47.945, STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which was up 4.36% to settle at 45.812 and Evonik Industries AG (DE:EVKn) which gained 3.84% to close at 26.490.
The worst performers were Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which was down 2.37% to 25.560 in late trade, Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which lost 2.31% to settle at 28.82 and Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which was down 1.21% to 26.870 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which rose 4.88% to 64.920, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 4.43% to settle at 37.068 and Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which gained 3.66% to close at 171.350.
The worst performers were United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which was down 1.30% to 36.425 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which lost 1.07% to settle at 43.940 and Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 0.13% to 54.460 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 701 to 175 and 21 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.44% to 24.76.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.81% or 10.70 to $1328.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.76% or 1.32 to hit $49.17 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.76% or 1.36 to trade at $50.62 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.42% to 1.1112, while EUR/GBP fell 0.72% to 0.8233.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.48% at 95.73.
