Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.93%, while the MDAX index added 0.29%, and the TecDAX index added 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which rose 3.94% or 3.36 points to trade at 88.62 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) added 3.91% or 3.86 points to end at 102.70 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 2.75% or 1.09 points to 40.79 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG), which lost 2.11% or 0.510 points to trade at 23.660 in late trade. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) declined 0.68% or 0.520 points to end at 75.820 and Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) shed 0.51% or 0.320 points to 62.870.
The top performers on the MDAX were Rocket Internet (DE:RKET) which rose 3.91% to 23.90, Metro Wholesale & Food Specialist AG (DE:B4B) which was up 2.21% to settle at 11.8100 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which gained 1.99% to close at 154.00.
The worst performers were Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which was down 3.23% to 25.1400 in late trade, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which lost 2.78% to settle at 141.50 and Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which was down 0.93% to 33.920 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 6.01% to 54.700, S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was up 3.52% to settle at 20.320 and RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which gained 3.00% to close at 21.320.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was down 4.30% to 12.920 in late trade, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which lost 2.13% to settle at 128.500 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which was down 2.09% to 58.700 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 429 to 278 and 78 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 7.93% to 17.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.25% or 3.30 to $1302.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.40% or 1.60 to hit $68.33 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.70% or 2.04 to trade at $77.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.05% to 1.1657, while EUR/GBP rose 0.78% to 0.8775.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.79% at 94.06.
