Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Media and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.83%, while the MDAX index climbed 1.29%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG), which rose 3.86% or 2.240 points to trade at 60.320 at the close. Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) added 3.62% or 5.000 points to end at 142.950 and Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) was up 3.08% or 3.95 points to 132.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 2.77% or 0.211 points to trade at 7.412 in late trade. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) declined 1.03% or 0.093 points to end at 8.934 and Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) shed 0.64% or 0.095 points to 14.770.
The top performers on the MDAX were Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which rose 7.79% to 86.60, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was up 5.17% to settle at 80.100 and Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which gained 4.43% to close at 27.600.
The worst performers were Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which was down 6.50% to 43.180 in late trade, Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which lost 3.51% to settle at 17.0600 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 3.33% to 3.219 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Dr. Hoenle AG O.N. (DE:HNLG) which rose 9.11% to 46.700, JOST Werke AG (DE:JSTG) which was up 6.03% to settle at 29.0000 and ADO Properties SARL (DE:ADJ) which gained 5.53% to close at 48.84.
The worst performers were DWS Group GmbH & Co KgaA (DE:DWSG) which was down 3.09% to 23.02 in late trade, SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which lost 2.71% to settle at 17.230 and Vossloh AG (DE:VOSG) which was down 2.59% to 41.450 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 493 to 228 and 59 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 1.12% to 20.38.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 3.40 to $1289.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 4.70% or 2.34 to hit $52.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 4.12% or 2.42 to trade at $61.14 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.73% to 1.1524, while EUR/GBP rose 0.45% to 0.9032.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 94.940.
