Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Stella-Jones Inc. (TSX:SJ), which rose 7.35% or 5.54 points to trade at 80.87 at the close. Pet Valu Holdings Ltd (TSX:PET) added 5.85% or 1.48 points to end at 26.78 and Jamieson Wellness Inc (TSX:JWEL) was up 3.61% or 0.95 points to 27.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which lost 10.33% or 1.89 points to trade at 16.41 in late trade. Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) declined 9.87% or 1.08 points to end at 9.86 and Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u) shed 7.11% or 1.26 points to 16.46.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 619 to 346 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.96% to 14.98.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.66% or 13.20 to $1,975.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 4.15% or 3.35 to hit $77.47 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.99% or 3.40 to trade at $81.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.45% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.28% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 105.36.
