Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cott Corporation (TO:BCB), which rose 7.40% or 1.41 points to trade at 20.46 at the close. CCL Industries Inc (TO:CCLb) added 4.80% or 2.71 points to end at 59.15 and Chartwell Retirement Residences (TO:CSH_u) was up 3.46% or 0.53 points to 15.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX), which lost 13.42% or 0.490 points to trade at 3.160 in late trade. Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA) declined 10.07% or 3.600 points to end at 32.150 and Cascades Inc . (TO:CAS) shed 7.62% or 1.09 points to 13.22.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 580 to 515 and 147 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.15% to 13.16.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.87% or 11.20 to $1276.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.58% or 0.33 to hit $56.84 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.31 to trade at $63.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7886, while CAD/EUR fell 0.19% to 0.6760.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 94.28.
