Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.46% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 7.42% or 0.29 points to trade at 4.20 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 6.91% or 0.70 points to end at 10.83 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) was up 6.63% or 1.63 points to 26.21 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which lost 20.29% or 0.71 points to trade at 2.79 in late trade. Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) declined 4.90% or 3.29 points to end at 63.84 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) shed 4.78% or 0.63 points to 12.54.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 542 to 419 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.52% to 11.51.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.88% or 20.60 to $2,371.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.38% or 1.19 to hit $85.24 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.05% or 0.95 to trade at $89.43 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 103.89.
