Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.39% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD), which rose 10.28% or 0.220 points to trade at 2.360 at the close. Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) added 7.90% or 3.22 points to end at 44.00 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) was up 7.19% or 0.63 points to 9.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 5.48% or 2.070 points to trade at 35.670 in late trade. Cascades Inc . (TSX:CAS) declined 3.64% or 0.55 points to end at 14.56 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) shed 2.96% or 1.18 points to 38.63.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 632 to 415 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.80% or 13.95 to $1755.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $59.77 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.11 to trade at $63.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.35% to 0.7957, while CAD/EUR rose 0.02% to 0.6680.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 92.090.
