Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.29% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX:ATA), which rose 11.75% or 4.44 points to trade at 42.24 at the close. Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TSX:ITP) added 9.39% or 2.71 points to end at 31.58 and GENIVAR Inc . (TSX:WSP) was up 6.27% or 9.47 points to 160.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS), which lost 12.90% or 7.18 points to trade at 48.49 in late trade. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) declined 10.50% or 0.190 points to end at 1.620 and SunOpta Inc . (TSX:SOY) shed 5.75% or 0.77 points to 12.62.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 572 to 411 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.25% or 21.65 to $1753.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.41% or 0.96 to hit $69.25 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.85 to trade at $71.48 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.14% to 0.7997, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6812.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 92.915.
