Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.26% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which rose 6.81% or 0.22 points to trade at 3.45 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 6.04% or 1.62 points to end at 28.46 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) was up 5.94% or 1.28 points to 22.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which lost 8.57% or 1.41 points to trade at 15.04 in late trade. Telus International Cda Inc (TSX:TIXT) declined 4.30% or 0.50 points to end at 11.12 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) shed 3.20% or 1.62 points to 49.02.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 506 to 480 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.65% to 11.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.59% or 11.45 to $1,944.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.06% or 0.96 to hit $91.12 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.48 to trade at $94.18 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 105.01.
