Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Finning International Inc . (TSX:FTT), which rose 3.45% or 1.41 points to trade at 42.23 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) added 2.80% or 0.22 points to end at 8.07 and Nutrien Ltd (TSX:NTR) was up 2.74% or 2.02 points to 75.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which lost 3.96% or 6.00 points to trade at 145.59 in late trade. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) declined 3.89% or 0.16 points to end at 3.95 and Pet Valu Holdings Ltd (TSX:PET) shed 3.52% or 1.13 points to 30.94.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 478 to 445 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.41% to 12.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.39% or 9.15 to $2,322.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $78.48 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.14 to trade at $83.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.44% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.31% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 105.26.
