Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.08% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Northview Apartment REIT (TSX:NVU_u), which rose 12.80% or 4.16 points to trade at 36.66 at the close. Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) added 4.78% or 0.23 points to end at 5.04 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) was up 4.71% or 0.58 points to 12.89 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 9.22% or 1.72 points to trade at 16.94 in late trade. Sienna Senior Living Inc (TSX:SIA) declined 7.65% or 1.50 points to end at 18.11 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSX:KL) shed 6.84% or 3.390 points to 46.190.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 528 to 491 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.63% or 10.15 to $1621.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.71% or 0.38 to hit $53.87 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.11 to trade at $59.23 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.26% to 0.7543, while CAD/EUR fell 0.06% to 0.6994.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 99.802.
