Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa fell 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which rose 2.05% or 0.71 points to trade at 35.33 at the close. Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) added 1.54% or 0.23 points to end at 15.20 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) was up 1.36% or 0.21 points to 15.69 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which lost 4.87% or 0.42 points to trade at 8.20 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) declined 3.53% or 0.50 points to end at 13.65 and JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) shed 3.52% or 0.29 points to 7.95.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 264 to 158 and 40 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 11.45% to 28.91.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.93% or 11.87 to $1291.17 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.18% or 1.08 to hit $48.48 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 2.80% or 4.00 to trade at $138.77 .
USD/BRL was up 0.68% to 3.1776, while EUR/BRL rose 0.82% to 3.7420.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 93.28.
