Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.42% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which rose 9.55% or 0.610 points to trade at 7.000 at the close. Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) added 5.65% or 1.18 points to end at 22.05 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was up 5.23% or 0.45 points to 9.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which lost 1.90% or 0.98 points to trade at 50.50 in late trade. Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) declined 0.73% or 0.04 points to end at 5.45 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) shed 0.29% or 0.10 points to 34.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 228 to 113 and 12 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.80% to 31.89.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 7.75 to $1344.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 4.08% or 1.70 to hit $43.41 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.71% or 0.98 to trade at $138.00 .
USD/BRL was up 0.43% to 3.1403, while EUR/BRL rose 0.00% to 3.4984.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.30% at 95.88.
