Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Financials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 2.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4), which rose 8.07% or 0.63 points to trade at 8.44 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) added 6.41% or 0.64 points to end at 10.63 and Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:CYRE3) was up 5.95% or 0.59 points to 10.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which lost 7.11% or 0.86 points to trade at 11.24 in late trade. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 6.65% or 2.30 points to end at 32.30 and Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) shed 4.52% or 0.530 points to 11.190.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 207 to 118 and 20 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.43% to 54.48.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.16% or 2.00 to $1221.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.18% or 0.07 to hit $39.39 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 0.65% or 0.83 to trade at $128.50 .
USD/BRL was down 1.40% to 3.6320, while EUR/BRL unchanged 0.00% to 4.1019.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.20% at 95.98.
