Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Basic Materials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.66% to hit a new 3-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3), which rose 5.12% or 1.40 points to trade at 28.74 at the close. Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) added 4.12% or 1.70 points to end at 42.93 and CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) was up 2.82% or 0.26 points to 9.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which lost 4.21% or 0.44 points to trade at 10.00 in late trade. Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) declined 4.09% or 1.31 points to end at 30.69 and Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3) shed 2.25% or 0.90 points to 39.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 223 to 156 and 32 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.92% to 30.63.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.19% or 2.40 to $1269.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.89% or 0.44 to hit $49.62 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 0.65% or 1.07 to trade at $165.02 .
USD/BRL was up 0.01% to 3.1704, while EUR/BRL rose 0.06% to 3.4555.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.33% at 98.92.
