Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.51% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4), which rose 5.18% or 0.62 points to trade at 12.60 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 4.91% or 0.26 points to end at 5.55 and Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA:CPLE6) was up 4.63% or 1.33 points to 30.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CCR SA (SA:CCRO3), which lost 3.53% or 0.58 points to trade at 15.85 in late trade. BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) declined 2.88% or 0.85 points to end at 28.71 and Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) shed 2.52% or 0.60 points to 23.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 178 to 170 and 38 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.16% to 33.23 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.40% or 4.70 to $1190.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.62% or 1.33 to hit $52.15 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 1.10% or 1.63 to trade at $149.15 .
USD/BRL was up 0.05% to 3.1973, while EUR/BRL rose 0.23% to 3.3810.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 101.80.
