Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 6.23% or 0.52 points to trade at 8.87 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) added 5.40% or 1.23 points to end at 24.00 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) was up 5.28% or 1.04 points to 20.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which lost 5.47% or 2.93 points to trade at 50.68 in late trade. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) declined 4.98% or 1.06 points to end at 20.23 and Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) shed 2.02% or 0.70 points to 34.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 231 to 194 and 27 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.73% to 31.41.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.98% or 12.43 to $1281.63 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.09% or 1.72 to hit $57.36 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 1.33% or 1.65 to trade at $125.62 .
USD/BRL was down 1.98% to 3.2488, while EUR/BRL fell 2.00% to 3.7704.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 94.64.
