Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Warehousing and Transportation Equipment sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 5.88%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (T:8830), which rose 10.48% or 290.5 points to trade at 3063.0 at the close. Meanwhile, JGC Corp. (T:1963) added 9.65% or 155.0 points to end at 1762.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) was up 9.30% or 20.0 points to 235.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232), which fell 0.22% or 1.0 points to trade at 452.0 at the close. KDDI Corp. (T:9433) added 2.56% or 69.0 points to end at 2769.0 and Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) was up 2.71% or 15.0 points to 568.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1880 to 9.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.83% to 41.14.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 4.45% or 1.31 to $30.84 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 4.04% or 1.20 to hit $30.80 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.02% or 0.20 to trade at $1098.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.33% to 118.09, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 127.95.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.25% at 99.39.
