Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 1.50%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Utilities, Retail and Food & Beverages sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 1.50%, while the MDAX index climbed 1.96%, and the TecDAX index added 3.54%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 8.66% or 0.945 points to trade at 11.860 at the close. Meanwhile, E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 7.64% or 0.627 points to end at 8.829 and Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) was up 4.77% or 1.710 points to 37.590 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which fell 0.23% or 0.250 points to trade at 110.100 at the close. Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) added 0.13% or 0.150 points to end at 120.050 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 0.16% or 0.013 points to 7.912.

The top performers on the MDAX were Tui AG NA (DE:TUIGn) which rose 4.68% to 16.110, Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was up 4.36% to settle at 57.960 and Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which gained 4.33% to close at 83.110.

The worst performers were Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which was down 2.59% to 44.450 in late trade, Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which lost 0.57% to settle at 44.715 and Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which was down 0.40% to 10.080 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Software AG O.N. (DE:SOWG) which rose 12.58% to 28.955, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was up 7.06% to settle at 9.400 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 7.04% to close at 40.620.

The worst performers were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 1.93% to 55.900 in late trade, Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which lost 0.67% to settle at 2.650 and Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which was up 0.06% to 3.302 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 551 to 127 and 33 ended unchanged.

Shares in Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.59% or 1.180 to 44.450. Shares in Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) fell to 5-year lows; falling 0.40% or 0.040 to 10.080. Shares in Software AG O.N. (DE:SOWG) rose to 52-week highs; rising 12.58% or 3.235 to 28.955. Shares in Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) fell to 5-year lows; losing 1.93% or 1.100 to 55.900.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 7.57% to 28.31.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.39% or 4.30 to $1086.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.39% or 0.12 to hit $30.27 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 3.17% or 0.91 to trade at $29.45 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.10% to 1.0904, while EUR/GBP rose 0.57% to 0.7692.

The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 99.17.
