India stocks lower at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty down 0.75%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Power and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.75%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.78%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were NMDC Ltd (NS:NMDC), which rose 2.39% or 2.35 points to trade at 100.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML) added 2.00% or 10.75 points to end at 549.55 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 1.67% or 11.00 points to 671.45 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK), which fell 7.45% or 38.90 points to trade at 482.90 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK) declined 4.41% or 12.50 points to end at 271.20 and Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) was down 3.15% or 23.65 points to 727.65.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which rose 1.64% to 695.55, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.62% to settle at 358.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.41% to close at 251.60.

The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 7.36% to 482.95 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which lost 4.30% to settle at 271.50 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.67% to 242.00 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 839 to 598 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 458 fell and 320 advanced, while 9 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 3.05% to 17.0400.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.50% or 5.80 to $1171.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.69% or 0.30 to hit $43.50 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.76% or 0.35 to trade at $47.16 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.19% to 64.987, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 71.8920.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 96.85.
