Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Capital Goods and Power sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 2.07%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 2.07%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Wipro Ltd . (NSE:WIPR), which rose 0.62% or 3.70 points to trade at 595.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Infosys Ltd (NSE:INFY) added 0.25% or 2.80 points to end at 1107.45 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was up 0.18% or 2.10 points to 1187.40 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC), which fell 6.27% or 4.90 points to trade at 73.20 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) declined 6.15% or 6.05 points to end at 92.35 and Coal India Limited (NSE:COAL) was down 5.44% or 18.60 points to 323.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 0.20% to 1186.80, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 0.13% to settle at 900.95 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.08% to close at 1105.50.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 6.29% to 92.35 in late trade, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which lost 6.22% to settle at 73.15 and Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 5.40% to 323.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1008 to 406 and 15 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 564 fell and 188 advanced, while 4 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 11.92% to 20.3450.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.32% or 3.60 to $1129.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.60% or 1.22 to hit $45.74 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.44% or 0.70 to trade at $48.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.32% to 65.927, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 73.6110.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 96.19.
