Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financials, Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which rose 6.36% or 0.72 points to trade at 12.04 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) added 4.30% or 1.03 points to end at 25.00 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was up 3.96% or 0.97 points to 25.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which lost 4.55% or 0.720 points to trade at 15.110 in late trade. Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA:CPLE6) declined 3.70% or 1.35 points to end at 35.14 and Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) shed 3.54% or 1.00 points to 27.28.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 243 to 129 and 33 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 4.34% to 34.17.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.40 to $1274.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.64% or 0.29 to hit $45.27 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 1.09% or 1.83 to trade at $169.93 .
USD/BRL was up 1.52% to 3.2182, while EUR/BRL rose 0.63% to 3.5173.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 98.51.
