Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Optoelectronic, Oil, Gas & Electricity and Trading & Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted gained 1.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Walsin Tech (TW:2492), which rose 10.00% or 2.50 points to trade at 27.50 at the close. Sumagh High-Te (TW:1475) added 9.99% or 0.76 points to end at 8.37 and Msi (TW:2377) was up 9.98% or 4.35 points to 47.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tong-Hwa Synth (TW:1418), which lost 8.73% or 0.48 points to trade at 5.02 in late trade. Ruentex (TW:9945) declined 5.56% or 2.35 points to end at 39.95 and Chiu Ting Mach (TW:1539) shed 4.66% or 1.55 points to 31.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 652 to 145 and 57 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.91% or 0.35 to $38.63 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.70% or 0.28 to hit $40.13 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.23% or 2.80 to trade at $1240.30 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 1.11% to 32.328, while TWD/CNY fell 0.30% to 0.2007.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 95.02.
