Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Power, Real Estate and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.69% to hit a new 52-week low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 3.27% or 6.85 points to trade at 216.25 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.43% or 20.80 points to end at 875.35 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC) was up 2.01% or 20.55 points to 1042.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (NS:PGRD), which lost 5.69% or 7.95 points to trade at 131.75 in late trade. Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) declined 2.92% or 20.15 points to end at 670.50 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) shed 2.88% or 4.50 points to 151.80.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 2.88% to 215.90, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 2.38% to settle at 874.85 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which gained 1.85% to close at 1041.90.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 3.06% to 151.90 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 2.96% to settle at 304.95 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 2.90% to 298.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 914 to 464 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 535 fell and 238 advanced, while 36 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.91% to 22.7450.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.17% or 2.10 to $1237.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.84% or 0.27 to hit $31.88 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.13% or 0.39 to trade at $34.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.41% to 68.710, while EUR/INR rose 0.42% to 75.6960.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 97.52.
