Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Transport, Insurance and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (T:6302), which rose 5.23% or 29.0 points to trade at 583.0 at the close. Nikon Corp. (T:7731) added 3.84% or 61.0 points to end at 1648.0 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) was up 3.67% or 15.0 points to 423.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meidensha Corp. (T:6508), which lost 7.95% or 28.0 points to trade at 324.0 in late trade. Panasonic Corp. (T:6752) declined 6.71% or 73.7 points to end at 1025.0 and Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. (T:4183) shed 5.02% or 26.0 points to 491.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1463 to 1427 and 406 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.41% to 19.58.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.47% or 0.22 to $47.08 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.84% or 0.41 to hit $49.02 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.59% or 7.45 to trade at $1280.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 104.92, while EUR/JPY fell 0.01% to 115.11.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 98.39.
