Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Mining and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.55% to hit a new 6-months low.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which rose 14.56% or 0.23 points to trade at 1.81 at the close. Meanwhile, Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) added 10.08% or 0.24 points to end at 2.62 and Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG) was up 9.55% or 0.36 points to 4.13 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET), which fell 9.51% or 0.41 points to trade at 3.90 at the close. Athabasca Oil Corp (TO:ATH) declined 9.09% or 0.14 points to end at 1.40 and Encana Corporation (TO:ECA) was down 8.64% or 0.97 points to 10.26.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 842 to 557 and 193 ended unchanged.
Shares in Trilogy Energy Corp (TO:TET) fell to all time lows; losing 9.51% or 0.41 to 3.90. Shares in Athabasca Oil Corp (TO:ATH) fell to all time lows; down 9.09% or 0.14 to 1.40. Shares in Encana Corporation (TO:ECA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.64% or 0.97 to 10.26.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.12% to 12.89.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.34% or 3.70 to $1097.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.76% or 0.37 to hit $48.08 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.09% or 0.60 to trade at $54.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7667, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.6984.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 97.36.
