Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3), which rose 6.07% or 0.36 points to trade at 6.29 at the close. Meanwhile, Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 4.67% or 2.01 points to end at 45.07 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) was up 4.67% or 0.10 points to 2.24 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which fell 8.18% or 0.18 points to trade at 2.02 at the close. BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) declined 5.32% or 1.22 points to end at 21.72 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) was down 4.88% or 1.72 points to 33.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 168 to 151 and 4 ended unchanged.
Shares in ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) fell to 5-year lows; down 8.18% or 0.18 to 2.02. Shares in BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.32% or 1.22 to 21.72.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.56% to 52.40 a new 1-month high.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.49% or 5.40 to $1100.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 5.03% or 1.43 to hit $29.77 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 2.28% or 2.55 to trade at $114.50 .
USD/BRL was up 1.47% to 4.1574, while EUR/BRL rose 1.34% to 4.5232.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 99.11.
