Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.08%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Chemicals and Transportation & Logistics sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 1.08%, while the MDAX index lost 0.79%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.68%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 0.77% or 0.090 points to trade at 11.710 at the close. Meanwhile, E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) added 0.08% or 0.007 points to end at 8.931 and Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) was down 0.21% or 0.170 points to 81.390 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG), which fell 2.09% or 0.910 points to trade at 42.680 at the close. Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) declined 1.78% or 2.100 points to end at 115.800 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) was down 1.75% or 1.600 points to 89.910.

The top performers on the MDAX were Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which rose 1.44% to 46.975, Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (DE:WING) which was up 0.85% to settle at 46.375 and Celesio AG Nam. O.N. (DE:CLSGn) which gained 0.78% to close at 25.055.

The worst performers were Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which was down 1.92% to 12.780 in late trade, Kloeckner & Co SE NA (DE:KCOGn) which lost 1.88% to settle at 8.045 and Hannover Rueckversicherung SE (DE:HNRGn) which was down 1.86% to 105.650 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which rose 2.87% to 240.450, Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which was up 1.86% to settle at 3.015 and Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which gained 1.37% to close at 31.115.

The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 4.82% to 51.720 in late trade, Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which lost 3.11% to settle at 68.610 and Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which was down 2.32% to 170.700 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 400 to 266 and 55 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.53% to 21.14.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.78% or 8.30 to $1059.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.04% or 1.15 to hit $36.72 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.84% or 1.07 to trade at $36.72 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.17% to 1.0904, while EUR/GBP fell 0.26% to 0.7353.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 98.47.
